To install whited00r follow

Remember You HAVE to choose Set as new iPhone/iPod and don't restore previous after the installation
If you don't do this, then don't ask for help in the forum if you gets errors.

As many of you know, with the release of iOS 4.0 Apple discontinued support for the iPhone 2G as well as the iPod Touch 1G. This left iPhone 2G and iPod Touch 1G stuck on iOS 3.1.3 for life. Furthermore, while Apple did end up upgrading the iPhone 3G (which has the same amount of RAM/processor as the iPhone 2G), 3G owners experienced a great deal of problems after updating to 4.0. The OS was incredibly slow and was barely usable.

After various reports and angry iPhone 3G users, Apple began to look into the issue and stated the issues would be resolved in iOS 4.2.1. When iOS 4.2.1 came around, performance had been improved on the iPhone 3G, but it was still quite slow. Most users decided to downgrade/remain on iOS 3.1.3.

Enter WhiteD00r (no pun intended). The WhiteD00r project had been released in July of 2010 to provide a stable port of iOS4 while basing it off the 3.1.3 firmware. Basically, you were running a modded version of OS 3.1.3 that looked and performed exactly like iOS4. The folks behind the WhiteD00r project have recently updated the custom firmware file adding in many performance tweaks. They’ve done some really nice work!

Check out this comparison video they’ve uploaded comparing an iPhone 3G running the latest version of WhiteD00r vs stock iOS 4.2.1:

[RELEASE] whited00r 4.2 Software Update

New whited00r firmware released today,available http://www.whited00r.com/downloads.html

  • iPhone 3G: v4.2
  • iPod Touch 1G: v4.2
  • iPod Touch 2G: v4.2
Change-log
  • Really similar to v4.1 but this should run faster (unused dependencies removed).
  • New Multitasking by Darlo included (not a great new for many of you, but lots of new users could have problems installing Multitasking without Activator)
  • Older Backgrounder to avoid dependencies (tested and safe..) < only way to remove activator from libexe
  • Minor changes

How to speed up whited00r (v4.2)

This guide is for v4.2 of Whited00r. Older and newer versions might not be supported by this.Whited00r is known to be very fast for an old device. It can be made faster if you delete some things that you might not need.

1) Don't install other mobile substrates.
Mobile Substrates will edit things on your iPhone or iPod but they also slow down your iPhone or iPod a lot. Whited00r comes preloaded with a couple mobile substrates. You can find them in /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries. Whited00r comes with Backgrounder*, iOS3Multitasking*, Folders and Simple Background* [* only for Full Edition]. If you don't use one of these you can delete the .dylib and the .plist file for it in /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries and then respring. This will improve your iPhone or iPod's speed. Installing more substrates will slow your device down more. (Note: Backgrounder is needed for iOS3 multitasking)รน

2) Delete unused daemons.
Whited00r disables most daemons on their firmware but some are up to you to delete because they are used by some people. Whited00r says the following daemons are safe to delete but you should back them up anyway Navigate to System/Library/LaunchDaemons to delete them:
com.apple.search.plist ---[remove if you don't user Spotlight search]
com.apple.apsd.plist ---[remove if you don't use PushNotifications]
com.apple.dataaccess.dataaccessd.plist ---[remove if you don't use Exchange or Google Sync]
com.apple.datamigrator.plist ---[remove if you don't want to import contacts from SIM card]
com.apple.racoon.plist ---[remove if you don't use VNP: Virtual Private Networks]
com.apple.MobileInternetSharing.plist ---[remove if you don't use Tethering]
com.apple.AOSNotifications.plist ---[remove if you don't use MobileMe Sync]
com.apple.mobile.obliteration.plist ---[remove if you don't need to delete data from Exchange, from Reset menu or with the function of failed passcode]

3) Don't run lots of apps in the background.
Apps that are running in the background think that they are running in the foreground. Therefore the apps don't release the resources that they don't need. This uses a lot of your device's ram and the 1st generation devices only have 128MB of it. Only background the amount of apps you need and then stop backgrounding them when you are done. Open the multitasking and push and hold an app. The app should then start to jiggle like it would on the springboard and a close badge will come up like in the image below. Click the badge and the app will stop backgrounding. Then push the home button to get out of it.

4) Delete Language Packs
Here is an easy guide for how to delete Language Packs.
If the following link are currently not available, you may follow this links: Xsellize
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below.

5) Speed Up Cydia
You could try to add a modded .js file to Cydia to make it faster (no loading time of description):
put in /Applciations/Cydia.app
http://www.multiupload.com/6WEDL753Y6
I wanted to put this file in v4.2 but I forgot about this (the .zip also contains new Cydia icon)

Remove all unused Languages from iPod/iPhoneRemoving language packs that are unused from your iphone/ipod will increase memory and the smooth running of your device.

Directions

To delete languages, leaving just the english and emoji icons:
Use WinSCP to navigate to the main folder of your phone: "/"
open up the terminal and type:

for file in `find . -type d -name "*.lproj" -not -iname "en*.lproj" -not -iname "ja*.lproj" -exec echo {} \; | sed -e 's/\.\///'`; do rm -vr ./$file ; done

Informations

Normal or Unlocked?
You should choose Normal release only if you can legitimately activate you device via iTunes AND you don't need carrier unlock (so you are using the original SIM card or your iPhone is factory unclocked). All other users should choose Unlocked firmwares. If you are not sure use Unlocked firmwares. Unclocked firmware need a Push-Notifications patch after the installation. Both Normal and Unlocked firmwares includes jailbreak and Cydia.

Full or Lite?
We provide two different Whited00r firmwares based on iOS3. Full edition includes all features (same of them can be added via our Cydia repo too), so if you want a great upgrade use this. Lite editions offer better performances since HomeScreen Wallpapers and Multitasking are not included.

With or Without MMS?
We just released v4.2. Currenlty v4.2 with MMS enabled is not available for downlaod. Please wait for it.
iPhone 2G users can choose between two kind of firmwares. I suggest using the MMS enabled release only if you really need MMS and Tethering. If you don't use these features I suggest usign the "without MMS" version since it doesn't use a patched CommCenter so you battery could last more.

iOS3 or iOS4 Based?
iOS4 Based firmware has not been released yet. It would require lot of time before it is ready.
iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G users can choose between iOS3 or iOS4 based firmware. Firmware on iOS3 is really faster then iOS4 based one, but you can't install iOS4+ only apps from AppStore. We reccommend using iOS3 based firmwares since old device runs really slow on iOS4.

Do I need Apple original firmwares?
Indeed you don't need them at all. We provide them in case you would need to restore to Apple official firmware and you can't find these firmware on the web. Remember this too: on iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 1G and iPod Touch 2G you don't need saved SHSH (ECID) for downgrade. You always will be free to install all firmwares you want.

How I can extract the firmwares?
You are downloading a .zip that contains a ipsw (this is the real firmware you need to install). Some browsers and operative systems could misunderstand extensions. If you experience problems use Google Chrome browser and unzip the pack with 7zip (on Windows) or TheUnarchiver (on MacOSX). You only need to decompress the .zip and not the .ipsw

How I can install the firmwares?
Read cafully and followe this guide. If you experience problems (like 16xx errors) try this. You can also use the forum to ask for help.
